I will be visiting the Solomon Islands from 8 to 9 August 2016.  This visit will reaffirm Australia's strong and enduring partnership with Solomon Islands, which is focussed on maintaining stability, economic growth and human development.

I look forward to my meetings with Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and other senior Solomon Islands Government leaders to discuss regional issues of common interest and to strengthen ties between our two countries.

I will represent the Australian Government in the commemoration service of the anniversary of the sinking of HMAS Canberra off the coast of Honiara in 1942 and meet with Australian Defence Force personnel who support the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force including through the Pacific Maritime Security Program.

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) has been successful in bringing stability to Solomon Islands. I will be discussing with the Government of Solomon Islands the departure of RAMSI in June 2017 and Australia's continuing support after this date.

Helping to end violence against women in the Pacific region is a core priority for Australia. I have included in my program a visit the Christian Care Centre to discuss its efforts to support survivors of gender-based violence.

I will visit the National Medical Stores to see how Australian aid is contributing to the provision of lifesaving medical supplies in Solomon Islands.
