I will be visiting Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia from 8-11 September to support the Prime Minister at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting and to represent Australia at the Post Forum Dialogue.

Together, we will demonstrate Australia's intention to help meet the many challenges facing the Pacific, including climate change and transnational threats.

While in Pohnpei, I will also meet senior ministers from the Federated States of Micronesia and further strengthen foreign policy, development and security ties between our two countries.

Australia's development investments in the Federated States of Micronesia – worth $3.6 million annually – are making a positive difference.  I plan to visit some of our aid projects and meet prominent Micronesian women to discuss how Australia is working with Pacific Island Countries to improve opportunities for women.

I will also meet the International Organisation for Migration, one of Australia's key development assistance partners, to review the support Australia provided to the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Marshall Islands earlier this year in response to the El Nino-induced drought that affected the North Pacific.

Australia will continue to work with Pacific Island Countries to enhance economic growth, sustainable development, good governance and security in our region.
