Our region of the world is extremely vulnerable and prone to crises – from natural disasters to economic shocks. Today I will open a forum bringing together members of 10 Australian Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) to share their experiences in building community resilience in the Indo-Pacific.

The forum, held in Canberra, will highlight the valuable role of NGOs and provide an opportunity for the group to collaborate and share innovative approaches that build community resilience in vital areas such as climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, water and sanitation and government service delivery.

The Australian Government supports the work of NGOs through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program and the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, providing funding to experienced Australian NGOs to strengthen local capability in the Pacific to anticipate, prepare for and respond to disasters.
