Today I will open the inaugural Australian Aid Supplier Conference, a Government initiative to promote understanding of Australia's development assistance priorities and thinking.

The conference will bring together more than 190 individuals from a range of commercial suppliers, non-government organisations, multilateral organisations, academic institutions and individuals along with government technical experts.

It will provide aid suppliers with a unique opportunity to network and build on how the Government's development assistance program contributes to Australia's national interest by promoting prosperity, stability and security in our region.

By fostering communication and understanding between the Government and aid suppliers, the conference will help ensure we are working together to achieve our common goals.

I welcome the high level of interest shown in the conference from the private sector and others.
