I will visit Papua New Guinea from 14 – 15 May 2017 to address the Australia Papua New Guinea Business Forum and Trade Expo.

I will meet businesses from PNG and Australia to discuss working together to increase growth and economic opportunities. Australia is committed to promoting trade with PNG and greater investment in business through economic cooperation.

During my visit, I will launch the Choice Wantok program in partnership with Westpac. This program will increase access to banking services in the PNG Highlands using a range of innovative digital solutions. Access to improved financial services is key to providing more inclusive economic growth and an important part of our partnership with PNG.

I will also meet with PNG women leaders who have participated in programs through the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct. These women play an important role in contributing to economic growth in PNG. The empowerment of women and girls is one of the most effective ways to achieve higher economic growth and better living standards.

PNG is a country with great economic potential and opportunities for business. Australian and PNG business have a long history of trade, investment and partnership. As both our economies grow and develop, business, economic and people-to-people links will continue to provide the foundations for partnership and growth.
