Today eight young Indigenous Australians embark on a life-changing journey to volunteer in a remote South African community.

The volunteers are participating in the Classic Wallabies Indigenous Exchange (CWIE), an initiative of the Classic Wallabies and Eidos Institute, and part of the Australian Government's international volunteering program.

The Classic Wallabies Indigenous Exchange is inspired by the spirit of friendship experienced by the Wallabies on their world rugby tours. The volunteer program offers international development experience and cross-cultural exchange for young Indigenous leaders.

The group will spend five weeks living and working in South Africa's Limpopo province where they will volunteer with Eco Children, a non-profit organisation that focuses on hands-on environmental education.

The Australian Government recognises the unique contribution made by Indigenous Australians to telling our nation's story, and is committed to increasing opportunities for Indigenous youth, including though programs such as the CWIE.
