Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs Richard Marles arrives in Bucharest today for a two-day visit that reaffirms the friendly and constructive relations and longstanding people-to-people links Australia shares with Romania.

Mr Marles' visit offers an occasion to promote Australia’s robust economic credentials and to discuss the current negotiations on an Australia-EU Framework Agreement.

"I also look forward to obtaining useful perspectives on the developments and challenges affecting the European Union more broadly," Mr Marles said.

Mr Marles will also discuss Australia and Romania’s respective efforts in Afghanistan and regional developments including within the European Union and the Balkans.

"As a member of NATO, Romania punches above its weight as a generous contributor of troops to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)," Mr Marles said.
