This week I will visit Port Moresby to discuss with Ministers and business leaders in Papua New Guinea ways to enhance our significant trade and investment links.

Australia’s economic relationship with its nearest neighbour Papua New Guinea has tremendous growth potential and can drive job creation in both countries.

There are significant opportunities for Australian companies in Papua New Guinea including in the mining and energy, agriculture, construction and tourism sectors.

This will be my first visit overseas since my appointment as Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment and reflects the importance the Australian Government places on our growing economic partnership with Papua New Guinea.

In 2015 Australian investment in Papua New Guinea was $18.4 billion and our two-way trade totalled $4.7 billion.

With a strong background in agriculture, small business and engineering before entering politics, I am keenly aware of the opportunities for jobs and economic growth available to Australia through increased trade, tourism and investment with our neighbours near and far.
