Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs, Senator Matt Thistlethwaite, will visit Papua New Guinea from 14-18 April.
"I am looking forward to my first official visit to Papua New Guinea, Australia's closest neighbour and one of our most important international partners," Senator Thistlethwaite said.
"Fostering a close and prosperous relationship with Papua New Guinea is a key part of my role as Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs."
Senator Thistlethwaite will meet PNG Ministers and attend the 29th Australia – Papua New Guinea Business Forum.
"It is clear that trade and investment will play an important role in Papua New Guinea's economic growth and development," Senator Thistlethwaite said.
"The Forum will highlight the opportunities available to business in Papua New Guinea and Australia."
Senator Thistlethwaite will also represent Australia as Commonwealth Chair-in-Office at the 8th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting and will highlight Australia's achievements as Commonwealth Chair-in-Office.
As part of the visit, Senator Thistlethwaite will inspect the Pacific Adventist University School of Midwifery, supported by Australia's aid program to PNG, and will visit the Bomana War Cemetery.
