17 April 2013

Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs, Senator Matt Thistlethwaite, today launched a guide on good practice in youth engagement: "New energy, ideas and perspectives – How young people are creating change across the Commonwealth".

Senator Thistlethwaite said that in Australia, indeed throughout the Commonwealth, young people are coming up with innovative ideas to bring about change.

"This Guide showcases a collection of innovative youth engagement approaches from across the Commonwealth on how young people work with each other to progress causes and make a difference."

"We hope the Guide will stimulate an exploration of ways in which organisations and governments can engage young people to help bring about real changes in their communities."

Senator Thistlethwaite launched the Guide on behalf of the Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, Peter Garrett, at the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting in Papua New Guinea.
