Parliamentary Secretary for Trade Kelvin Thomson will address the Ozmine2013 mining exhibition and conference during an official visit to Jakarta this week.

Now in its seventh year, Ozmine is Australia's key mining event in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.

Mr Thomson, who is also visiting Hong Kong this week, will speak at the opening session of the event, in which over 100 Australian companies are participating.

Presented by Austrade, Ozmine2013 is a unique networking and promotional opportunity for Australian mining and Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) companies.

"Australian mining and METS firms boast world-leading expertise and technology and are highly regarded across ASEAN," Mr Thomson said.

"This event is all about linking up with potential partners to help develop resource assets and improve efficiency, safety and sustainability throughout the region."

Ozmine2013 will bring together key industry and government players from Australia and ASEAN, providing a forum to discuss major trends and opportunities.

The Ozmine2013 theme, Partnering for Performance, reflects strengthening ties between Australian mining companies and professionals and their regional counterparts. In Indonesia, for example, 45 ASX-listed mining companies have an interest in 172 projects.

This year's conference will focus on ways the Australian industry can help drive mine productivity through the implementation of industry best practice in exploration, human capital, equipment, financing services, innovation, and mine management.

Other highlights of Ozmine2013 include the large-scale trade exhibition, networking events and business seminars.
