Today I announced at the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMDRR) in Mongolia that Australia will host the next meeting in 2020.

The Indo-Pacific is the most disaster prone area in the world with an increasing frequency and intensity of disasters. 6 out of 10 of the most vulnerable countries in the world to natural disasters are in our region.

2020 will mark a milestone year to bring great attention to and investment in disaster risk and resilience in the region and AMCDRR is a catalyst for countries to maintain momentum on building disaster resilience.

Australia is uniquely placed in the centre of our region to bring friends and neighbours together to continue to reduce the impact of disasters and the suffering that results when natural disasters hit.
