Australia to champion practical reforms at global development conference

29 June 2025

This week I will attend the Fourth United Nations Financing for Development Conference in Seville, Spain from 30 June to 3 July.

The conference is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to strengthen how the global development system is financed.

Governments, financial institutions, development and business leaders will discuss ways to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

I will be backing practical reforms that improve access to finance for Small Island Developing States, support debt sustainability, and make the global development finance system more transparent and inclusive.

Australia is stepping up at a time of global uncertainty—investing record levels of development assistance to advance our national interest of a stable, secure and resilient Indo-Pacific.

We are supporting more effective and responsive financing mechanisms, to ensure the development needs of our region can be met.

Australia’s development program continues to demonstrate that progress is possible through collective action.
