FTA seminars for Logan City and Ipswich businesses

  • Media Release

Local businesses can hear how to access the benefits of Australia’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) during free seminars in Logan City and Ipswich on March 19 and 20 respectively, Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Mark Coulton said today.

Mr Coulton will host both events, delivering practical information on how businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises, can access export opportunities.

Providing further perspective in Logan will be Kevin Colwell, National Supply Chain Manager from B&R Enclosures, and in Ipswich will be Anthony Pratt, Chief Operating Officer from JBS Australia.

Mr Coulton said Australia’s FTAs open new business horizons for a whole range of industries in the Logan City and Ipswich regions.

“There have been significant and ongoing tariff reductions on Australian exports since the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement and the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement entered into force,” Mr Coulton said.

“The recent signing of the TPP-11 and the Peru-Australia Free Trade Agreement will result in even more.”

“Australia now has improved access to well over a billion consumers in China, Japan, Korea and across the Pacific thanks to our wide-ranging FTAs.”

“I encourage all local business people to attend our free seminars and find out how they can be a part of this exciting new era of global trade and investment for Australia.”

The Logan City event runs from 2-5pm on March 19 at the Diggers Services Club, while the Ipswich event is from 9am-12 noon on March 20 at the Ipswich Civic Centre.

Participants will also hear from Austrade, TradeStart, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), AusIndustry and Efic.

Austrade and DFAT are running a series of FTA seminars across all Australian states and territories. Since March 2015,94 seminars have been delivered.

Attendees can register for the free seminars at www.austrade.gov.au/ftaseminars or find out more information by calling Austrade on 13 28 78 or emailing fta@austrade.gov.au.
