Bilateral meeting with Peruvian Trade Minister
Today I met with my Peruvian counterpart Minister Galdo to discuss opportunities for deepening economic ties between Australia and Peru.
Australia’s relationship with Peru is characterised by our likeminded approach to trade, strong commercial engagement and our shared commitment to a global rules-based trading system. This relationship is underpinned by the Peru-Australia Free Trade Agreement (PAFTA), which came into force in 2020.
We are committed to strengthening our relationship with Peru. PAFTA provides a central platform for ongoing collaboration and growing trade between the two countries.
Australia will work with Peru to highlight the trade and investment opportunities provided by PAFTA through information and technical exchanges.
This will include joint capacity building activities across different regions of Peru to showcase the benefits of the agreement, bilateral trade and investment opportunities, and existing success stories.
Our collaboration on PAFTA is bolstered by our joint membership of the CPTPP and by our mutual participation in APEC. With Peru hosting APEC this year, we have the opportunity to strengthen our economic relationship with Peru in support of our shared priorities for inclusive, sustainable and resilient growth.
