Africa Down Under 2024

  • Media Release

This week I will attend Africa Down Under, Australia's premier Africa-focused mining conference, in Perth.

The Africa Down Under conference continues to be a key forum for ministers and business executives from both our continents to connect and discuss shared opportunities and challenges.

Australian mining companies now invest an estimated $60 billion in Africa. High quality Australian investment benefits both Australia and African countries.

Trade between Australia and countries on the African continent has grown rapidly, reaching $11 billion in 2023.

Australia's engagement with Africa has never been more important. It is a priority for the Australian Government and we have shared interests with Africa in collectively addressing global challenges.

Last year in New Delhi, the African Union was admitted as a permanent member to the G20. This was a significant moment not only in Africa's story, but the story of our global economy.

I look forward to meeting African ministers and delegations at the conference.
