International Partnership for Nuclear Disarmament Verification

Today I will open the International Partnership for Nuclear Disarmament Verification (IPNDV) Plenary meeting in Sydney.

Australia has been an active contributor to the IPNDV since its inception in 2015 and has played a leadership role as co-chair of the IPNDV’s Inspection Task Group.

This is Australia’s first hosting of an IPNDV meeting.

Australia remains deeply committed to the goal of a world free of nuclear weapons, and champions international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation efforts through a pragmatic, realistic and progressive approach.

Verification measures are central to a world without nuclear weapons. The benefits of verification go beyond the goal of nuclear disarmament.

They allow for the peaceful development of nuclear technology including in human health, agriculture, and the environment.

Technologies that have helped people around the world thrive.

The IPNDV brings together experts from more than 25 countries to focus on practical, technical solutions to the huge challenges of nuclear disarmament monitoring and verification.

This Plenary is an important opportunity for partners to share knowledge and further develop practical tools and technologies to address these challenges.
