Senator the Hon. Nita Green represents Queensland and is based in Cairns. She is the Assistant Minister Northern Australia, Tourism and Pacific Island Affairs.
Before entering Parliament, Senator Green was an Employment Lawyer at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers and worked for the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union as an Industrial Lawyer.
Senator Green was elected in 2019 and has held several committee roles including, Chair of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee, and Chair of Joint Select Committee on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum.
In 2022, Senator Green was appointed the Special Envoy for the Great Barrer Reef. Working closely with the Minister for Environment, this role was focused on the management the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, including mitigating threats such as climate change and poor water quality.
She lives in Cairns with her wife Lacey and daughter Stevie and is a keen football (soccer) fan.
