Today I will travel to Nauru for the first time to mark a significant milestone under the Nauru-Australia Treaty.
Australia is proud to be Nauru’s largest economic, security and development partner, with long term investments in health, education, economic governance and infrastructure.
We are pleased to support Nauru’s access to a sustainable and trusted banking service with the launch of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia Agency in Nauru. This is a vital outcome for keeping Nauru connected to the global economy.
The Nauru-Australia Treaty, signed in December 2024, elevated our bilateral relationship to an integrated partnership to support Nauru’s economic security and resilience.
While in Nauru, I will meet with the President HE David Adeang and senior government leaders to reaffirm our shared vision, strong partnership, and commitments under the Treaty.
Our countries have a deep, long-standing relationship that is built on a shared history, cultural connections and, of course, our love for AFL which is Nauru’s national sport.
The Australian Government thanks the Commonwealth Bank of Australia for its support, as well as Bendigo and Adelaide Bank for facilitating a smooth transition and handover as they exit Nauru.
