Biography of The Hon Dr David Gillespie MP

The Hon. Dr David Gillespie MP is Minister for Regional Health and Minister Assisting the Minister for Trade and Investment. He has served in the House of Representatives as the Member for Lyne, NSW, since 2013 and is currently Deputy Leader of the House.

Dr Gillespie has a strong interest in growing Australia’s industries, particularly in manufacturing and agriculture.

Having spent most of his working life in regional Australia, Dr Gillespie has an in-depth understanding of the regions and is keen to ensure industry and business outside the capital cities are promoted at a national and international level.

Another important priority is ensuring Australian businesses have increased access to global markets and additional export opportunities.

Before entering Parliament, Dr Gillespie practiced medicine for 33 years and spent more than two decades as a local gastroenterologist and medical educator in Port Macquarie. With his wife, Charlotte, he built and operated the Hastings Day Surgery.

David and Charlotte have three adult children.
