Senator The Hon Nita Green, Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs
The Albanese Government is extending support for the Palau Paradise Express to continue the non-stop Qantas flight that connects Australia and Palau.
This investment will ensure flights continue for another 12 months till December 2026.
What started out as a request from the Government of Palau, became a reality with Australian Government support in December 2024 when the first flight took off.
In the last nine months, over 5000 passengers have travelled on the Paradise Express, and over the next year there will be thousands more.
The Paradise Express is more than just a flight – it strengthens Palau's economic resilience through tourism and two-way trade opportunities, and it is a tangible demonstration of the close connection between our two countries.
Because of its success, both Governments have agreed to continue to support the service.
It comes after Australia and the Republic of Palau celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations last year, building on decades of cooperation in the Blue Pacific
Quote attributable to President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. President of the Republic of Palau:
"On behalf of the people of Palau, I extend a heartfelt mesulang (thank you) to the people and government of Australia for supporting the Palau Paradise Express. It is strengthening tourism, trade, and our bonds as members of the Pacific family.
"This service has opened new doors for travellers, professionals, and cargo, while expanding education and workforce opportunities across the Pacific. From boosting our economy to bringing athletes to the Pacific Mini Games, the Palau Paradise Express is connecting our region in powerful new ways — proof of our shared vision for a connected and prosperous Pacific."
Quote attributable to Minister for Pacific Island Affairs Pat Conroy:
"Australia listens to the priorities of the Pacific family – and acts on them.
"With the Palau Paradise Express set to soar for another year, our relationship with Palau will continue to reach new heights as we deepen the economic and people to people links between our two countries.
"Australia will continue partnering with our Pacific neighbours to deliver on their priorities."
Quote attributable to Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs Nita Green:
"In January I was honoured to meet President Whipps marking his first visit to Australia and the first flights of the Palau Paradise Express.
"We know that aviation is critical to connecting the Pacific family to one another and to the global economy. Whether it's tourism, trade or job creation, Australia is a proud partner in achieving this.
"The success of the Paradise Express, and these flights continuing into 2026, is a clear example of Australia's commitment to partnering with our Pacific neighbours."
