Delivering a transparent and accountable development program

  • Media Release

The Australian Government is boosting the transparency and accountability of Australia’s international development program to ensure that every dollar of development funding contributes to the outcomes that Australia and our partners want to achieve.

The new AusDevPortal launched today, will provide, for the first time, access to key data on Australia’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) investments online.

AusDevPortal is designed to be an intuitive, accessible way to explore Australia’s role in humanitarian response and international development, including our long-term support for health, education, infrastructure and governance programs in the Indo-Pacific region.

It will publish key data on every Australian aid investment, including project descriptions, yearly expenditure, total values, and geographic locations. The Portal will also publish performance scores and provide access to project evaluations and design reports.

Initially, Australians and international partners will be able to access data on over 900 Official Development Assistance projects Australia supported in the 2022–23 financial year, representing $4.78 billion in investments across 122 countries. Data will be added for 2023-24 and future years once available.

In addition to creating our own dedicated transparency portal, the Australian Government has also recommenced reporting to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI), aligning Australia with global benchmarks for aid transparency. Australia ceased reporting to IATI back in 2019, which saw our global aid transparency ranking drop dramatically.

Both initiatives are part of the Government’s broader commitment to repair the international development program after a decade of neglect. These initiatives will support Australia to meet the highest standards of transparency and accountability for our development program.

Enhanced transparency means a more effective, accountable and responsive development program - driving visibility, awareness and confidence in Australia’s development efforts.
