Visit to Papua New Guinea

  • Media Release

Today I will travel to Papua New Guinea to further strengthen the relationship between our two countries.

This will be my fifth visit to PNG over the past twelve months, reflecting the depth and breadth of relations between Australia and PNG, including in sport which we celebrate both on and off the field.

Australia's relationship with PNG is profoundly important, based on a shared history as close neighbours, partners and friends.

During the visit I look forward to building on the outcomes of the Annual Leaders' Dialogue and the Australia-PNG Ministerial Forum.

At the invitation of Prime Minister the Hon James Marape MP and PNG National Rugby League Bid Chairman Mr Wapu Sonk I will be pleased to attend an inaugural corporate dinner in support of PNG's bid to become the next franchise in the NRL.

Australia is proud to be PNG's partner of choice and is committed to working together, in the interests of a peaceful, prosperous and resilient Pacific.
